I’d like to introduce you

Let’s play a game for a moment. Pretend you could step outside of your body and look at ‘you’ objectively. Treat this ‘you’ like you would treat a new friend. Would you be friends with this person? What would you change about them? What about would you admire about them? If they screwed up, would you punish them or tell them that it’s just a learning experience? If they got down, would you simply pile on or tell them “it’s ok, you’ll do better next time!” If they succeeded in doing something would you celebrate with them or minimize the accomplishment?

There’s a verse in the bible: Matthew 12: 12: Jesus says: “So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you…”

In God’s beautiful symmetry, the reverse of this is also true: “Do unto you as you would do unto others”.

So today, give this new friend of yours a break. Treat them with compassion. Encourage them. Pick them up when they fall. And celebrate their success and triumphs as if they were your own. Because they are. Have a great day!

Love dad
