Let’s get crazy
1 in 7.4 billion. That’s what you are. Amazing isn’t it? Our brains can’t possibly fathom the breadth of that figure. But currently that’s the number of people who reside on our planet. So, what do you think of the statistic that reads 1 in 7.4 billion? Does it make you feel insignificant, as if you are a small fish in a vast ocean? Or does it make you feel special, unique and worthy?
It’s easy to get lost in this number. It’s easy to feel like your one contribution, your one vote, your one life doesn’t really count and that you will be swallowed whole and forgotten forever. It’s easy to get lost in the crowd. 1 in 7.4 billion. The odds were better in the last Powerball. But it happened. You happened. You were born at this time, in this place with a combination of genetics, gifts and capacity to be one-of-a-kind. And just in case you think that doesn’t matter, ask some of our fellow human beings: Leonardo da Vinci, Aristotle, Mozart, Einstein, George Washington, Steve Jobs, etc.: those who refused to be minimized. If they had believed that their little contribution didn’t matter, the world never would’ve progressed, improved to the point where it is today. These people weren’t perfect, they simply decided that they were going to leave their mark. Each one of their lives have and will impact the world for generations. They are, what one commercial calls, “the Crazy Ones”. This iconic spot for Macintosh computers recognizes the value of their contribution. It goes on to say: “Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the Ones Who Do…” Don’t miss that! They were crazy enough to “think” they could change the world. They believed it first, and then did it. It all starts with belief. It is my favorite commercial of all time.
This is where you come in: you’re significant. You have that spark. You are gifted and have a desire to be valued. In fact, your gifts combined with your drive to develop them into skill can make a difference and change the world. You are one of the crazy ones! Believe it! God does not see you as simply one of many. He sees you as special. Matthew 10:30 reads: “even the hairs of your head are all numbered”. Does that sound like God sees you just as a number? You are a “one time only” person!
The reality is, we will only ever meet even a tiny fraction of the 7.4 billion people who live here at the same time we do. That doesn’t mean we lack the ability to impact, improve their lives. 1 in 7.4 billion. You are special. You are unique. And I’m the luckiest man in the world, because I won the lottery and get to be your father. Have a great day! I’m proud of you! Love dad.
